This is a day of fun for kids ten and under with crafts, games and even a visit from the North Pole! To share in the holiday cheer, please bring a non-perishable item for admittance. The KEPTO is always looking for volunteers to help at our events! We are most in need of volunteers for our upcoming Winter Workshop! Without enough volunteers, we will not be able to run this event. KES parents, grandparents, families, & friends are all welcome to help.
Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, Deborah Weisel departed from her role as interim principal of Carmel High School as scheduled. Back in September, I shared with you that Anthony DiCarlo had been appointed to the interim principal position beginning November 16. While the local area prepared for some winter weather, it was already snowy in the front hallway at Kent Elementary School thanks to our kindergarten students in Caroline Thaler's class! Kent Elementary kindergarten and first-grade students practiced jumping, leaping and hopping from hoop to hoop while playing Pac-Man tag in the gym! There is no doubt that peer relationships begin to increase the importance and influence during the early years of elementary school.

To our Carmel parents and guardians, thank you for sharing your children with us and allowing us to help them grow every day. Our district has spectacular students and that stems from you as parents and guardians. Your support, partnership, and active involvement in your child’s educational journey are a testament to our shared desire for success for each district student. We look forward to continuing to work with you in new ways to ensure that continued success. First-grade students at Kent Elementary School recently had a special guest reader in class, Assemblyman Kevin Byrne, to continue our Read Across America celebrations. At the May 24 Board of Education meeting, fourth-grade music enrichment students from Kent Elementary performed for the community.

We have created and developed our collections that we know you will love to add that finishing touch to your room. Our collections range from hollywood mirror dressing tables to luxury mirrored furniture, stylish and functional mirror jewellery cabinets and makeup trolleys with lights. We ship to the UK and Europe with plans to expand into the US market. Our Kent Elementary School students didn't just get Field Day this year, they got a Field Week! Over the course of last week, our students had the opportunity to play water games, run an inflatable obstacle course, master hula hoop tossing, hop in potato sacks, enjoy tasty snacks and more. Come and join the fun at the CHS gymnasium on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 12-3PM.
To celebrate our national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, music teacher Nina Madison shared the history of the anthem using an illustrated picture book of the lyrics. The students took turns reading the lyrics to the song while Madison translated and explained the words in age-appropriate terms. It was no tricks and all treats for Matthew Paterson Elementary kindergarten students on Halloween!
Celebrating Native American Heritage Month
Open communication between home and school is an important vehicle for solving problems. In addition to academics and the arts, Carmel High offers over 25 competitive interscholastic teams for boys and girls to compete athletically. CHS is known for exceptional results in Football, Baseball, Track and Field, Cross Country, Swimming and Diving, and Girl's Softball, boys and girls soccer, to name a few. Offerings include Girl's Field Hockey, Lacrosse,Wrestling and all of the major sports typically seen in high school.
As part of a required school health examination, a student is weighed, and his/her height is measured. These numbers are used to figure out the student’s body mass index . The BMI helps the doctor or nurse know if the student’s weight is in a healthy range or is too high or too low. Recent changes to the New York State Education Law require that BMI and weight status groups be included as part of the student’s school health examination. A sample of school districts will be selected to take part in a survey by the New York State Department of Health.
With plenty of comfortable seating, and optional stuffed animals for support, students settled in around a faux campfire in the library’s lab for the readings. The tradition continued for third-grade students at Matthew Paterson Elementary School this year with the annual Thanksgiving Celebration. For more than 45 years, third-grade students and teachers have been gathering for a fun-filled day of seasonal activities, academic lessons, crafts, food and more – and this year was no different.

This year, the Career & Technical Education Department inducted 10 high-achieving students and one honorary member, Assistant Principal John Fratto. We are just a few days away from seeing our students’ smiling faces, hearing the excited buzz of young minds ready to learn in our hallways, and kicking off a wonderful school year. Thank you for your partnership and support in your child’s educational journey in our district. We hope that you will join us at our many events and celebrations this year. He began his teaching career as a reading teacher at Kildonan School, where he was also the Social Studies Coordinator and Department Chair. In 2010, he began teaching middle school Social Studies in Millbrook Central School District where he also completed his administrative internship. His educational leadership experience expanded in his roles as Assistant Principal in two schools in Arlington Central School District, where he also had the opportunity to serve as a Committee on Special Education chair.

The focus of the trip was to see and discuss ancient art from Mesopotamia and Greece – an area they are currently exploring in class – as well as learn the history of the library and museum. Rich red-colored walls, beautiful tapestries, exquisite artwork and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. That was the scene in Danielle Marino’s History of Art class as the students recently took a virtual field trip to the Morgan Library and Museum in New York City. Last month, Deborah Weisel was appointed to the interim principal position at Carmel High School to fill the role for Principal Lauren Santabarbara while she is on her approved leave. Deborah will remain in the position as Lauren steps into the interim Assistant Superintendent role while we work to find a longer-term interim principal at Carmel High School.
